Emo rap (also known as emo hip-hop and hipster hop) is a term typically used to describe hip hop music with emotional lyrical content comparable to that of emo music.
Overview
Emo rap is more of a term than an actual hip hop subgenre, though it has spawned a (mostly fan-imposed) movement of emotional rappers who are more accessible to a rock crowd. While commonly used, the term “emo rap” is controversial, and the genre’s legitimacy is highly debated.
